Ive just started redesigning the Dev Dreams design and was wondering if any of you had any thoughts on it.

All suggestions and ideas welcome...the sooner the better

i will be adding more colour, thats the main reason for the redesign

about simplicity...i will keep it as simple and as stylish as possible

Ok, ive put together a basic frame design meaning that its far from complete...

Tell me what you do and dont like.

The header graphics.... just isn't suitable for a webmaster's forum.... Also, the way you've set it up, the blue doesn't seem to fit in with the grey and white..

The header image should have either an image like http://www.alistapart.com has, or a solid color with a logo.

You should have an actual logo for DDreams. Like ibeginwithanidea.com has--not text, but a shape of some sort.

Just put the logo on a plain(ish) background...

I would suggest using mainly white with 1pt black borders and use Orange for the headers (BG or text...)
Also give the center column a min width because for me it is allways the same width as the other comlumns... or narrower! lol

Very Neat! except its al;l a little pixelated, I don't like the sharp gradient change in the middle of DevDreams and you could just put .com under rather than putting the whole url... :D

Python, I think your logo design is excellent - did you do it yourself? With a little polishing - increasing the anti-alias and softening the gradients - it's do just fine. I like the black and blue combination.

I've come up with a little something myself (didn't take me more than 10 minutes), but I gotta admit your's is better. :roll:

Well, if i were to make your logo, it would be abstract and to detailed, so im afraid i cant exactly help... But if you want detail, just ask

Hmm... Python, I just noticed something about your logo preview... The light directions of the radial gradients on the 3 balls don't seem to be coming from the correct directions - the top ball seems to be reflecting a light from the top while the other two seem to be reflecting a light from the bottom - which is not possible as you've put drop shadows for all the 3 balls.

ok ok, lets clear something up...i didnt create that logo myself. i havent got enough phothoshop skills to create a black box nevermind a 3d looking logo.

thats why im going to need someone elses help to change whatevers wrong with it, such as the lighting and position of the drop shadows....

anyone willing to help?

Hell, lets have a contest: whoever can make the best header, then layout, wins.

Yeah, but don't make it a strict comp...

Just give 50 F$ to everyone who submits a header and Python picks out a winner (If there is one better than his... ;)) and the winner gets another 200 F$.
Then, start another thing exactly the same, but you ahve to design the layout. 100F$ for entering and python can pick a winner again and they get another 400F$...
Or something like that.... :D

I think that trying to keep it to two columns might improve site usability and asthetics.
