Good find Tony...
Interesting. I wonder if I would use it...
The article also mentioned that they would be talking to some of the open source developers about it as well.
We'll have to see ;)

years? it shouldnt take that long. perhaps 6-9 months to create and fully test it

No... I disagree.
Licensing and so on will take forever.
It will probabally not be a conventional OS anyway.

ahh so are you saying that there possibly could be an OS released by google?
personally if they did i think it would kind of suck because it would be way too web orientated. The whole os would probably be based around the google site - get me?
ive heard theyre making an OS for the internet
dunno how that will work but it will probably be something like instead of my computer - my email and my do***ents would be my favourites or something
i dunno its probably all specualtion

Mr Microsoft here says that Google won't be able to beat Microsoft - both in the browser market and definitely not in the OS market.
Google may be able to gain some market share off IE but it won't even be able to make a tiny dent in the Windows marketshare (if they're even thinking of creating an OS, that is).

www.gbrowser.com returned a "Server Not Found" error.

The G OS would probabally be run online - All you would need is a very basic PC, Monitor and a net connection.
Instead of booting into the OS, you would likely "dial up" to it and have all of your files stored on the google servers...
These is the concept that has been floating around recently.
It would probabally be covered in adwords - with the option to take them away if you pay for it (Like opera)...
These are a few thoughts that are floating around. But none of this has any proof.

Such a concept would only work in the simplest of scenarios. I cannot imagine having such an OS replace what I'm using at work or at home (I normally bring tons of work home).

I'm sure that in 1920, people couldn't imagine staring at a little light box in the corner of a room every night - but it happened.
Things change, and I have no doubt that the way we use our PC's will too.

Yes that's what I meant--however I wasn't sure if it was legal to post whois records on forums.

Can't see why not - publicly available

Tony, not sure what you mean by putting all that whois info in the post but gbrowser.com still doesn't go anywhere - it gives a Server Not Found error.
SEBasic, I'd give you that - yes, in this fast changing world, who knows, what you mentioned may just come true - maybe soon :)

Google have bought it... Which shows that they may well use that domain to publicise it when the browser is released.

Well, if you want the best of the best, you go to the Master.
Google never released this OS did they? Or else the rumors weren't true and they were never building it.

Please Radavan, keep on-topic and reply with with a little sence. You keep praising Microsoft for everything they do. A Search Engine is totally different than a Operating System, it directly has nothing to do with each other.
Please correct me if I'm wrong staff.
